The focal point of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall is the pipe organ hand made in Austria by the Rieger Orgelbau. With four manuals, 93 stops and 8000 pipes, the pipe organ is the largest mechanically operated instruments of its kind in Southeast Asia. It features Rieger's own mechanical action design requiring no electrical assistance whatoever, not even in the coupling of one manual to the other. Increased wind pressure serves to overcome the acoustic f the Concert Hall, and stronger key-action allows for more intimate contact beyween player and instrument, with obvious benefits to articulations. Although a modern instrument in every sense of the word, it employs almost exclusively the time-honoured materials of metal and wood in its construction. Of the former, tin and copper are mainly used while many varieties of wood are employed for specific parts.

The pipe organ is a powerful instrument that qppeals to our senses in a unique way. Its enormous range of sounds, coupled with a huge variety of tone colours, creates a remarkable musical eperience equivalent to that of an orchestra.
